The Better Health Partnership staff, board and community were saddened to learn of the recent passing of Diane Solov. Diane was one of the pioneers of Better Health Partnership’s inception, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to advance collaboration in 14 communities across the United States called Aligning Forces for Quality. Diane served BHP’s mission from 2007 until 2020 as Program Manager and later as Director of Communications and Foundation Relations.
Rita Navarro-Horwitz, BHP President & CEO, remembers Diane as one of the greatest ambassadors of our mission-driven work: "Diane often worked late into the evening hours just ‘doing whatever needed to be done’ to keep BHP moving forward and delivering value to our members and the community. For those who did not know her – you would have appreciated the enthusiasm she brought to every meeting – always the cheerleader for our next big idea or project! With deepest sympathy for her family."
In honor of her life and legacy, we share a few of the many heartfelt quotes we’ve received about Diane:
- Diane provided a lot of the fire that was burning in the early days of BHP and had unbridled enthusiasm for the vision and mission. Her energy and enthusiasm helped propel us forward even when the future looked uncertain. I hate to see such a gifted person pass away so early in life, but she certainly left her mark on all of us and the world around us! Theodore "Ted" E. Wymyslo, MD, BHP Director Emeritus
- I first began working with Diane more than 20 years ago when she was a reporter for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and I was the executive in charge of regional growth for the Cleveland Clinic. Those were the days of rapid expansion of the regional health systems and stiff competition for growth. She was an excellent reporter, fair and accurate. But Diane was not satisfied with just reporting the news, she wanted to make a difference. She joined the new Aligning Forces for Quality team and what a difference she made. We hit the ground running with her leadership and passion and had positive results from the first surveys. She kept us in the news. I miss her intelligence and quick wit, but I especially miss her commitment to improving the health of our community. David Bronson, MD, MACP, FRCP, BHP Board Director
- I am saddened to hear of Diane's passing. I truly enjoyed working closely with Diane during the early days of BHP and throughout the later years. She was amazing and she will surely be missed. Karen Butler, BHP Board Director
- Diane was a very compassionate and driven person who would step up at any time to help. She was a strong, independent and wonderfully smart woman with unbelievable energy. Diane will always be part of the foundation of Better Health Partnership! Carol Kaschube, BHP Board Secretary
- I adored working with Diane during those exciting years with the Clinical Advisory Committee and at our Learning Collaboratives. Donald Ford, MD, MBA, FAAFP, BHP Board Director
- Before we worked together at Aligning Forces for Quality and Better Health Partnership, I knew Diane as a stand-out reporter and journalist, covering the top stories in our area. Kevin S. Lauterjung, BHP Board Director
- Diane was indeed a champion of BHP and community health. She played an instrumental role in building relationships in the community with the local foundations. Jonathan Lever, MPH, NRP, Director, Population Health and Care Management
